This product is a great purchase- and I know because my former roommate had the stainless steel model and after a year, it still worked like new! I love my red one and it cooks so well on bake or toast. I like the 'stay warm' option but it will make bread hard, so watch out. The exterior does not heat up (which is good) but the inside emits a smell and pops for the first several months as the metals heat up for the first few times. It takes some getting used to, but gradually fades away. I love the size (not too imposing but can hold a lot) but the cord is short, so it must be very close to an outlet, which could be tricky in some kitchens. Overall, Oster makes great toasters, blenders and can openers!
