I wanted a toaster oven which could toast things you can't put in a toaster (such as bread with cheese on top) as well as to have an alternative to using my large oven when cooking small portions. It also had to have the convection (fan) feature, which I find really helps to cook food faster and more evenly.

The functionality is all there: it's spacious and it toasts, bakes, convection bakes, and broils (but I use my main oven for broiling as I find it too messy to use a toaster oven). It even has a little light inside so you can check on the food. And the timer also works as a clock. It's a great value.

The downside, and my only reason for not giving this oven 5 stars, is that the outside gets extremely hot, especially the glass door. If you grasp the handle from the top (over-handed), your knuckles get burned by the top lip of the door - which is not insulated. When I spoke with a rep from Oster (kudos for having a toll-free number and a wait time of only 2 minutes), he confirmed that that is the way it is made and there is no solution other than returning it.

If you don't have children who may touch the glass door or try to open it, and you can remember to always open it under-handed, this is a very nice oven.

±1±: Best Buy I read reviews on so many here on Amazon, and saw how many warned about the heat of these appliances. At first I tried to set it up on a separate counter my husband had originally built for my bread machine, but it became apparent I needed a better spot for it and moved it to my regular 24 inch deep counter over my kitchen cabinets. I feel very safe using it now and found the sides are warm but not scorching hot, the top seems to only get extremely hot when you use it in broil mode. I bought this at [...] and have used it 3 times. The first was for pizza, not frozen, which heated in the time it said on the box. 15 minutes. The next time for a 9x13 cake. Disastrous!
The heating element stayed on so long that the top got way too brown. I preheated it for 15 min before putting the cake in.
When the timer went off, I tested it in the middle with a toothpick and it wasn't done. The middle fell. I baked it 5 minutes longer and by then, the top was way way too brown. The 3rd time, I baked a potato at 400 degrees and it took 1 hour and 10 minutes.
I'm taking it back to [...] tomorrow.

Good size to almost eliminate the need of your large oven. (For those concerned about space, look up measurements.) Good things; Looks great, heats great, size, convection fan, digital controls. Bad things; top and glass gets "really hot", convection only works on "bake" function. (And you must remember to turn it on) The user guide states to unplug the unit if your not using it. (Which I do) But if you do that, it clears the memory. (Making the temp / time memory recall useless.) Also, the LCD back ground does not light up and is a bit difficult to see in certain light. Regardless, im happy with it so far.

** As far as toasting bread / bagels I think your better off using a regular toaster. While it does toast great, it uses a lot more energy to "toast" compared to a regular toaster. I have a regular toaster next to the toaster oven. Its a lot quicker and reduces energy consumption. Also avoids heating the toaster oven up.

This toaster oven worked well for about two weeks, then its controller failed. The display froze will all pixels set, and it wouldn't respond to any buttons. A day later it seemed to recover, but would turn on only if I pushed the 'bake' button. It appeared to have lost all functions that required the upper heating element. Amazon sent a replacement quickly and painlessly, but the replacement lasted only three days before failing in the same manner. This model clearly has some fundamental flaws and should be taken off the market.

This product is a great purchase- and I know because my former roommate had the stainless steel model and after a year, it still worked like new! I love my red one and it cooks so well on bake or toast. I like the 'stay warm' option but it will make bread hard, so watch out. The exterior does not heat up (which is good) but the inside emits a smell and pops for the first several months as the metals heat up for the first few times. It takes some getting used to, but gradually fades away. I love the size (not too imposing but can hold a lot) but the cord is short, so it must be very close to an outlet, which could be tricky in some kitchens. Overall, Oster makes great toasters, blenders and can openers!

i had this toaster for less than a year when it caught on fire after less than one minute of being turned on. I clean out the crumb catcher religiously so there is no reason that it should have been on fire-but it was. Thank god I had a fire extinguisher on hand. If you want to buy this, then make sure you can stand in front of it and ensure it doesn't go up in flame every time you toast.

I've had this toaster oven for a couple months and I love it! I use it frequently and everything always turns out great. It doesn't take long to preheat, and yes it gets hot on the outside. It's an oven! It's doing the same work as an appliance that's 10 times it's size! The instructions warn against touching the outside of the oven while it's on, so it's really your own fault if you burn yourself. I've cooked pizzas and all kinds of other frozen foods and am always happy with the results. My husband is often out of town for work so it comes in handy when cooking small portions for one. It's also great for heating up leftovers if you don't want them to get soggy in the microwave. It does take longer to toast, but that's only because of it's size. Overall, this is a really great appliance!

This is the best small appliance purchase I've ever made. I've had this toaster oven for two years now and we could not live without it. I would say we've used it pretty hard also, use it everyday more than once for something or other. It's a must if you have teenagers. Easy to pop in snacks for the kids. The "oven" part is ACTUALLY an oven, cooks like a real oven, NOT like a toaster oven. When it's just my husband and I we don't have to turn on the big boy to cook a small casserole for two. I use this for everything, from making fries and frozen breaded fish, chicken nuggets, to toasting bagels and waffles. Everything comes out great and crispy. AWFUL - Visually, it doesn't appear as sleek in physically, as it does on-line. The plastic handle looks awkward and discolored. Secondly after less than of year of ownership and less than 6 months of use, it blew up on me, twice!! While toasting bread it totally burnt the bread (as it always does, and it doesn't matter if you set it to toast. I heard a loud exploding pop and after a second pop the handle melted and fell off. The unit was so hot I couldn't touch the PLASTIC handle, which was laying on my carpet, in the dining room. I could only pray that it didn't create a carpet fire. Overall all, this unit sucks! It's gets extremely and unbearably hot. It's so hot that you can't touch the food. In fact, on one occassion the cooking tray melted, in the earlier stages of the cooking process. At times the PLASTIC handle can not be touched after heating or toasting of food. I don't understand the PLASTIC getting so hot... In fact I am going to write the company. In after 6 months of use no item behave in this manner. It is entirely unsafe for adults, let alone children. This experience has been utterly disturbing and I feel that you should extract yourself from advertising and sale of this item. I am sure you wouldn't want to be caught up in the legal ramifications that will begin to take place with this dangerous product. Personally, I know off hand that a lawsuit is in the works!

Had this for about 3 yrs. For about 1.5 yrs it has been finiky as far as the buttons working when pushed ect. I have avoided fixing it due to time, but now I was ready. I checked with Krups to find out what parts I needed and they were quick to tell me that it can only be repaired in one of thier service centers and I could not buy the parts. Whereas I repair equipt for a living, I was a bit put off. So, I am trashing this one and buying another, needless to say it will not be a Krups or I would only be endorsing thier policies. BTW.....when it works it does the job well.....but the "working" part is the big issue.

I bought this overn for one major reason -- it uses a push-button to toast, versus using an analog timer. I cannot stand the timers; they always break, and of course, they can't take into account the current temperature as a push button can. Nor can you "abort" toasting in process. This toaster will vary the toasting time depending on current oven heat, and it's extremely easy to use. And if you want to stop toasting, it's just a button press, not a dreary wait for a timer to click off. I have not had any of the slow-heating issues others have.

The size of this toaster oven is great. You can fit a nice size frozen pizza in it. It's pretty easy to use and a nice looking appliance on the counter. The only thing I didn't like is the door. You have to hold onto the door when you open it or it just drops down and slams on the counter. I like it better when the door is connected to the shelf and the shelf pulls out when u open the door. We bought our Oster a little over two years ago. Liked pretty much all aspects of it until one day I was making a small batch of cookies and smelled something odd. When I went to go check it out I saw that the electric circuitry had caught fire and was burning in the interior of the oven! Scared me, I unplugged it from the wall and threw some baking soda on it. Was not good. After the fact, I read through some reviews and realized that the Oster catching fire was not an isolated incident. I cannot recommend this oven due to safety issues.
