Cuisinart is one of the premier manufacturers of toaster ovens, and the Cuisinart TOB-155 Toaster Oven is one of their well-known models. It's one of the best sellers on several retailers lists, and today I'm going to look at it in detail to find out just why it's so popular.
First of all, a general run-down of the Cuisinart TOB-155;
Dimensions - 16 x 17.75 x 9.5 inches
Weight - 19 lbs
Power output - 1500 watts
Slice Capacity - 6-slices
Timer - Adjustable to user's preference
Warranty - Limited 3-year warranty
Additional Features - Digital screen; touchpad controls; included high-quality baking and broiling pans
Convection - Yes.
The first thing that came to mind when I saw the Cuisinart TOB-155 Toaster Oven was "wow!" It really looks great, which a polished stainless steel face and a sleek and shiny matte black outer body. The lower panel at the front holds the digital display and touchpad controls. The controls made it super easy to use, and it's all very intuitive. You have no idea what you're missing if you've never used a toaster oven with electronic controls. Within a few minutes of plugging the unit in I had it toasting away. You will probably want to read the included manual to get the most out of your purchase, though.
The interior capacity of this unit is quite large. It is a 6-slice toaster, and it's roomy enough inside to fit a large pan inside without problem. The large interior also lends ease of cleaning to the unit, as it's easy to get into all areas of the interior. The included broil and bake pans are of great quality and seem as though they'd last a long time in the oven. There are handles on either side of the base, making it easy to pick up or turn around to access the crumb tray. The rack has two different positions that it can be places, and the rack can be adjusted to sit higher or lower depending on how you flip it around.
This model bakes pretty evenly for a toaster oven. I've baked cookies, potatoes, Shake & Bake chicken, frozen fries, you name it, and it's come out very well. The toasting function comes with 7 levels of toasting to choose from, however, I suggest hitting the 4-6 slice button if you are trying to toast 2 slices. Being a large convection toaster oven, this unit can replace a lot of the function your regular oven offers.
A minor inconvenience that I noted was that it has what I consider to be a slight design flaw. The stainless trim on the glass door wraps around inside the oven, meaning it can heat up. It doesn't make the handle itself get hot, but you have to be careful not to touch the trim that gets exposed to the inner oven. I don't consider this to be a major flaw, but it's something that you have to keep in mind when using the oven.
Is the Cuisinart TOB-155 Toaster Oven A Keeper?
I love this thing! It's one of the best mid-priced convection toaster ovens on the market, and Cuisinart never fails to impress. The TOB-155 makes for a great mini-replacement for cooking and baking, capable of taking over many of the jobs a full-sized oven does. You're also in for a real treat if you've never used a toaster oven with electronic controls; I don't think I could ever go back to using one without them now.
